BB17

BB stands for Borge Bringsvaerd which is named after the Norwegian shipyard. The BB 17’s hull is solid mahogany on oak and the year of construction is estimated to be in the 1950s, so the lady is even older than me. We bought the boat a few decades ago as a completely run down wreck in Germany and then lovingly restored it under the direction of my father. The frames were re-glued, rotten areas in the hull (caused by incorrect storage) were milled out and a completely new teak deck was put on.

We sailed the boat for a couple of years and after I moved into the faster catamaran scene we finally sold it.

Classic boats made of solid wood require a lot of maintenance, ignoring it is not a good idea in the long run and will show its effects. Long story short, the boat is these days with me again and another general refurbishment is due. This will take longer, however, as the BB17 is too long for my workshop and can therefore only be worked on outdoors, i.e. in summer.
